Lilywhite CoverPrologue Pete dropped, hard, to the ground beside the car. Pain shot through him as his shrapnel-damaged legs were kicked into a spread-eagle. "Fuck," he heard Jamar say. "You're dead, Frank. Dead. I knew you'd bring me heat." A heavy foot planted on Pete's back pressed his breath out with an "unnnnh!" He gritted his teeth against crying out as his arms were wrenched behind him and cuffed, the torque forcing his face into the scraping grit of the concrete floor. Dead fish and sweating bodies and mildewed wood and long-spilled oil assaulted his nostrils. "...right to remain silent. If you choose to waive that right..." Rough hands jerked him to his feet, propelling him by the cuffs to a car at the far entrance "...anything you say...." Jesus, there must be thirty cops here! He got a glimpse of Jamar being shoved into a squad car before a hand on his head forced him down and into the dark car interior "...can and will be used against you" and slammed the door on him.
